I’ve taken the dive and moved to self hosted from using various services.

I realised I have a server running 24/7, reliable internet and a static IP (that I managed to get from my ISP for free).

I’m starting to do more technical things, especially things related to amateur radio. I’ve now got my UK Foundation license, and have been enjoying FT8/FT4 and JS8Call and there’s loads I’ve learnt as a ’noob’ that could be useful to others.

Tech stack for BGall.uk of 2025-02-01:

  • CloudFlare to proxy public requests to my home public IP
  • Nginx Proxy Manager running on Proxmox
  • Web server on Caddy (first time using, quite impressed!)
    • Sites are using Hugo, and I’m uploading via ftp (is there not a better way?)
  • RaspberryPi running ADS-B stuff (tar1090)

More things to follow as I discover, break, fix and use technologies and self hosted things!
